So I made this starting sunday morning for my sister and let me tell you it was such a BITCH to get those knots filed down >:|
I hate knots, i hate them more than anything besides splintering wood! Because that is just down right wrong.
Total time spend on pugio : 4.5 hours
I’m taking a small brake from crona, partly because the guard made me mad, and the other part because I sister just won her Latin competition at the state level! She gets to go to nationals later and beat other people at latin :] Suffice to say I am very proud of her and I am making her a roman pugio as a gift before she comes back. It is a kind of roman dagger for infantrymen and looks a lot like a small gladius. I think she will love it!
Make the blade - check
Make the guard - check…..
REmake the guard - working on that
Make tons of little spikes for the thing - later
Make the handle - later
Somehow make the wrappings on the blade……. - later
Gloss, paint, and wrap the handle! - later
If anyone has any tips on how I should do one of these steps I love suggestions :] Considering I’m new to this any help I can get would be appreciated.

Ok so I started on Crona’s guard today and I found something out. I am not that great with a drill press. :| Plus little blocks of wood are not suited for this sort of job. Anyways I took the block and cut it to the right size, then drilled in a few holes on the top with the drill press. Took it home, filed the crap out of it and made the blade fit in the top. Problem was is I tried to make the holes for the dowel rod I’m using for the pegs on her guard and they came out uneven :[
I’ve gotta remake it now and that just pisses me off >:|
P.S. a full tang blade is always the way to go, don’t make the blade separate like I did

The before and after pictures of the wood I used for the blade of ragnarok :] it turned out a lot better than I expected.
Ok so I forgot to start this yesterday but I got all my stuff yesterday, dropped around eighty bucks for it all in all. Not bad considering all I got.
-1 workbench
-4 handfiles (different grades)
-1 set of fingerfiles
-1 woodplane
-2 woodgraters (1 small one large)
-3 different sandpaper sets (220, 150, and 60)
-6 sandpaper sponges
-a set of gloves
-4 coping saw blades
-and a MOTHER FUCKIN RED ROLLIE STOOL!
Besides that I just spent a bunch of time cutting out the general shape of the blade and making it relatively even, later I will go and start on making the shape of the guard and maybe start on the spikes. I need to wait until monday to use the drill press at school so I can make the slots and such for things to fit into the guard.
